In this episode, I explore the intersection of hosting gatherings and cycle syncing, emphasizing the importance of understanding one's energy levels throughout the menstrual cycle. I discuss how different phases of the cycle can influence planning, hosting preferences, and social interactions. From years of observing my cycles, I hope to provide you with a few practical tips for successful hosting. The point of this conversation, I hope, will encourage you to reflect on you own hosting experiences and how you can align your gatherings with your natural energy rhythms.
It’s that time of year when the grill gets a good scouring, and the patio furniture gets a pollen wash down.
Some things I’ve learned along the way when hosting with the flow:
When it’s time to plan- There is an optimum time in the cycle for planning. It just comes natural as our hormones help our ability to think, plan, and list.
The actual seasons and the weather forecast.
Your own weather forecast.
Do you know your favorite days of the cycle? Your most sunny, social days?
Small and intimate vs. invite your second cousins.
Knowing what we can handle and what brings us joy.
We may want the huge party and all the shenanagans, only to find we lack the energy to prepare, host and clean up, when the party day arrives.
Checking in.
Setting the pace for prepping.
Inner and outer seasons of hosting.
When the cycle shows up un-announced, how do we pivot? Host or ghost?
If we choose to proceed with hosting we have options. I have 5 practical tips for hosting when it’s not ideal.
Delegate
Accept help
Have an escape route
Sit down
Clear party-time slot
My husband and I love to throw a party. When we were younger we planned block parties with front porch live bands dotted along the street.
I’ve thrown birthday parties for my son when he was young with about 50 people in attendance, hosted many jewish feasts, and held Friendsgiving parties with standing room only.
My 40th was a big and wild outdoor party with plenty of shenanigans.
There have been parties, that, before cycle awareness, I had times of intense anxiety leading up to the gathering. Looing back at those times of quick heated frustration or panic, I could have really used the tools of cycle awareness.
These days, I know myself and my cycle and how it affects my planning and hosting abilities, I do my best to work with it, instead of against my cycle. It’s all a practice and every month we get a new shot at it.
Do you have a hosting story you want to share? Tell us all about it in the comments!
