No words can describe seeing these pics; I'm speechless. It's a devastation that you hope you never experience in real life. I will remember the note about the pool noodle for the port-a-potty as that is genius (and I live in tornado alley). Full transparency, I've not had a chance to listen to your podcast yet, but it's on my list to dig into. I hesitate to offer words of encouragement as they seem empty and hollow, but to not offer them feels insensitive so I'm not sure quite what to say. But thank you for sharing what you're experiencing as it hopefully helps you process the trauma and those who are living it as well. One of the best things about Substack is that we never know how or when our words will reach the right person at the right time. Hugs, xx

I can't even begin to describe with justice the emotions I felt while listening to your podcast. I'll try though. You captured a heartbreaking and devastating experience from a place of peace and beauty. There was no detection of resentfulness or bitterness in your description of your experience or of your beloved community. I felt intense honor to know you and have YOU as a part of my life. Your perspective, your generosity, and your ability to help me see things clearer have all had a positive effect on me. And I felt immense pride in your work and I hope you'll record more podcasts. You captured this (Helene and the menstrual cycle awareness) in a way that brings it to life. I don't know how you pulled this all together - to me it was a perfectly orchestrated magical experience. Your voice, your descriptions, your word choices, your care and concern were graciously impactful. Keep up the great job! My husband also listened to it with me and he agrees with everything I said. He was also very touched at the nod to me at the end, as was I. Neither one of us was expecting that. You have a real talent for representing life in the most beautiful way even through adversity. Your resilience is awe inspiring.
